Llíria and Granada join creativity in homage to Lorca

The theatre of the Banda Primitiva will host a recital of poetry and music of the UNESCO Network

Llíria – Creative City of Music – and Granada – Creative City of Literature –, join arts to offer a unique show: ‘Muerto de Amor’. The work, a poetic recital dramatized with live music, will be performed at the theatre of the Banda Primitiva of Llíria next Tuesday, August 18, day of the anniversary of the murder of Federico García Lorca in 1936.

Llíria City Council, through Turisme Llíria, wished to pay tribute to the figure of the poet from Granada 84 years after his death. And for that purpose, it has counted on the cooperation of Granada, whose programme Granada UNESCO City of Literature, from the Department of Culture of Granada City Council, provides photos of Federico García Lorca in the Huerta de San Vicente, which will be projected during the show. It is another Edetanian initiative within the UNESCO Creative Cities Network: “Lorca’s figure represents creativity and the purest sense of art. For Llíria, it is a wonderful opportunity to keep forging nurturing collaborations with the rest of Creative Cities. In this case, we do so by promoting literary and musical culture side by side with such an important and amazing city as it is Granada, the birthplace of the poet, who will be honoured with our music next Tuesday,” states Mayor of Llíria Manuel Civera.

This multicultural show will star the artist Elma Sambeat, a local of Llíria, accompanied by the French pianist Baptiste Bailly, the Argentine actor Jorge Affranchino and the Finnish actress Anna Kurikka. This is the premiere of the new recording project led by Elma Sambeat, and it will include, for the first time, new songs composed out of a selection of poems by Federico García Lorca. “The proposal offers a small but innovative dramatic work to emphasize the fact that this author is a strong creative stimulus for all of us,” announces Sambeat, promising “a free and creative journey through Lorca’s poetry, enlivened by the piano.”

The event, which will take place at 10:30 p.m., will comply with all sanitary measures. In order to attend, prior booking is required via the Llíria APP and the use of a mask is compulsory.
