The Banda UDP and the Unió Musical de Llíria participate in the 10th anniversary of the recognition of the Tribunal de les Aigües as Heritage of Humanity by Unesco

Llíria played a leading role in the commemorative events of the 10th anniversary of the recognition of the Tribunal de les Aigües (Water Court of the Plain of Valencia) as Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. The Plaza de la Virgen became the setting for an exhibition carried out by a metal group of the Unió Musical de Llíria and the Banda UDP Llíria-Camp de Túria-Serranos, both accompanied by students and professors from the Conservatory of Music.

Approved at the assembly held in Abu Dhabi in 2009, the Tribunal de les Aigües was granted the title of heritage by UNESCO under the idea that “the irrigators’ tribunals of the Spanish Mediterranean are traditional law courts for water management whose origins date back to the al-Andalus period 9th-13th centuries). They are recognized by the Spanish legal system.” Their members, who enjoy great authority and respect, are democratically elected and resolve disputes through an oral procedure characterized by its speed, transparency and impartiality.
