Unesco has declared Lliria a Creative City in the category of Music. The capital city of the Camp de Túria becomes thus the second municipality in Spain -following Sevilla- that receives this international recognition of this category. Hitherto, there were 21 musical cities all over the world and, of our country 7 Spanish localities were included in the Network of Creative Cities of Unesco. Within the Valencian Community there was only Dénia in the category of gastronomy.
The international body announced on October 30 on its web page the designation of the new 66 Creative Cities in the five continents and, together with Llíria, Valladolid was also recognized in the category of Cinema in Spain. “It is a deserved tribute to the extraordinary cultural and educational baggage of Llíria’s musical societies, the Primitiva, the Unió Musical, the ‘Micalet’, the ‘Vicente Giménez’ and the Banda UDP, which have made this recognition possible. At the same time we should like to thank for their contribution to so many generations of musicians that our city has provided and that now can find an open door to international projection”, pointed mayor Manolo Civera.
